E-bike or electric motorcycle?

They can cost about the same, but they live very different lives. Weight, batteries, charging and storage compared, so you pick the one that fits your days.

The short answer

The biggest difference is weight. A folding e-bike like the Taubik Escape is listed at 63 lb, with pedals and gears. Motorcycle-style models like the Evoque Streetster R are listed at 200 lb or more, with bigger batteries, lockable storage and car-style screens. Choose by where it will live, how far you go, and where you'll charge it. Then check your local rules.

  • Need to roll it into an elevator or lift it into a trunk? An e-bike. The Escape folds and is listed at 63 lb.
  • Longer trips, storage and a screen? A motorcycle-style model. The Streetster R lists up to 110–130 km with its biggest battery.
  • Parking outside but charging inside? Pick a removable lithium battery, so only the battery comes in.

Weight decides where it can live

Can you lift it up a step, roll it into an elevator, or push it home if the battery runs out? That's the everyday difference.

About 40 lb: where many owners say carrying up stairs gets hard

Weights as listed on each product page. Ask us whether a figure includes the battery, because lead-acid batteries add a lot. Even the lightest here is a heavy carry up stairs, so plan for ground-level parking or an elevator.

Lead-acid or lithium?

The Streetster R lets you choose between seven batteries. The choice changes the price, the weight and how you charge.

  • Lead-acid (SLA) is the lower-priced option. It's heavier for the same range. Ask whether it can come out; if not, you'll need an outlet where it parks.
  • Lithium costs more, weighs less and gives more range. On the Streetster R it's removable, so you can take the battery inside to charge. The Escape e-bike's lithium battery is removable too.
  • Lead-acid doesn't like being left flat. Keep it charged in storage, as the manual says.
  • Either way, use the supplied charger, charge somewhere dry that you can keep an eye on, and if the battery has been out in the cold, let it warm up indoors before charging.

Questions we get asked

Do I need a licence or insurance?
It depends on how the model is classified where you ride it, which can differ by province and municipality. Confirm it before you buy. Check your local rules first.
Can I charge it in my apartment?
If the battery is removable, you can usually take just the battery inside. Check your building's rules first, and follow the manual's charging steps.
How far will it really go?
The product pages list best-case ranges. A heavier load, hills, cold and speed all shorten them, so choose a battery that covers your usual trip with room to spare.
Is lithium worth the extra cost?
It's lighter, gives more range, and on the Streetster R it's removable. Lead-acid is the lower-priced way in. It comes down to your trips and where you'll charge.
Can I see them in person?
Yes. Call ahead to check which models are on display at the showroom nearest you. Find a showroom.
Can I pay monthly?
Financing is available and all credit types are welcome to apply. See financing.
Do you service them?
